"I can't tell you what will happen," announced Alan Bern, "because we don't exactly know ourselves!" What happend was music that carried away the audience with a synthesis of jazzy brilliance, symphonic poetry and soaring, song-like melodies framed in a tableau of dance rhythms. The septet played with virtuosity and grandiose creativity. The audience responded with boundless enthusiasm and frenetic applause.
